Overview

The process for selecon of players for the World Cup squad began with the conduct of zonal and naonal tournaments in different parts th rdo f the country between 8 October and 3 November 2017, concluding with the Naonal Championship at Mumbai. From this 56 players were selected for the Final Selecon Camp in Pune. 17 players were finally chosen to represent the country in World Cup 2018. NareshbhaiTumda from Gujarat was one of the chosen players in the B1 Category
thN areshbhai was born on 27 February 1991 in a village in VansdaTalukin Navasari District in Gujarat. His Father, Balubhai, is a farmer; his Mother is a housewife and looks aer the family. He has two sisters and three brothers. When he was about five years old, a tragic incident occurred in which he lost his sight. While playing in the fields with his friends, it so happened that the fluid (milk) from the twig of a Papaya leaf fell into his right eye. He rubbed his eyes insncvely. He went through medical treatment but the damage had been done. He had lost his vision completely in the right eye. The le eye too was affected in the tragic incident, but with treatment, he regained paral vision in this eye.

thHe was admied to a School for the Blind near Surat. He studied hard and passed 10 Class. While in in this school he got aracted to playing cricket. His parents and friends help him in the inial stages to get into the game. He picked up and started playing for the school team. Soon he got into the State team playing in Zonal and Naonal Tournaments, and this year was privileged to get into the Naonal Team as a first me entry.

He plays at No. 3 in the State team. Since he is a new entrant in the Naonal Team, his bang posion is yet to be fixed. He has no problem with bang in any posion. In Bowling, he is a medium pacer. Playing for Gujarat against Mumbai in Mumbai, he scored an aracve 126 runs, a performance that he rates as his best to date. In a match in Lucknow recently, he scored a fast hundred, and was adjudged the Man of the Match. His performance at the Naonal Level will be keenly watched by his team mates and managers.
He is a physically fit person. He exercises regularly to keep himself in shape. Besides cricket, he is also an athlete, with very good performances in the 100 metres events and in Long Jump.

His favourite cricket heroes are Rohit Sharma and HardikPandya. He has met KapilDev once and chaed with him. What did Kapil say? Naresh says with a grin, “All the Best”

How does he look at the future? Cricket is his life, he says. He would like to promote this game for the Blind in India and become a sports administrator in the country. All the Best, Nareshbhai.
