1st CABI Annual Awards 2018-19

The Cricket Association For The Blind In India (Cabi) in association with Samarthanam trust for the blind today celebrated and honoured emerging players and blind cricket heroes as part of its first annual awards night at a glittering ceremony at the KSCA Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru on 8 June 2019

The CABI Awards were given to emerging cricketers and cricketing heroes who have made remarkable contributions to the development, encouragement and reinforcement of blind cricket.  

The Awards night had the august presence of Mr. Sadanand Viswanath former India Cricketer, Mr. GK Mahantesh the President of CABI, Mr. Rajneesh the Vice President of CABI, Mr. John David the General Secretary of CABI and other CABI governing council members. KN Chandrashekar, former India player, two World Cups, 1998-2002, Awards Committee chairman and CABI Treasurer how the awards were chosen.

The President of the CABI welcomed the dignitaries, corporate supporters and Representative of Government.

Mr. John David the General Secretary of CABI announced the new office bearers after the elections which were held earlier in the day. Mr. GK Mahantesh was unanimously elected as the President of CABI. Mr. John David was unanimously elected as the General Secretary. Mr. Rajanish Henry and Mr. Vivek Singh were unanimously elected as Vice Presidents of CABI. Mr. Chandrashekar KN was appointed as the Treasurer unanimously. Elections were held for North Zone Secretary and Shailender was elected as new the secretary. The other three zones decided not to have elections. Mr. Uday and Mahender were unopposed for their positions as Executive Committee members. The elections were held for the other two spots with Mr. Buse Gowda and Krishna Malik emerging as victors.

The Cricket Association for the Blind in Kerala was awarded the Association of the year for being a sporting pioneer in the state, for promoting and popularizing blind cricket for visually challenged persons and building their potential and sportsmanship, for the best structured association, legally compliant and the economic independence created for the Kerala Blind Cricket players.

Jharkand was awarded the Team of the year for the year 2018-19. Jharkhand put up a brave fight and emerged as the surprise package in the All India Nagesh Trophy losing to eventual champions Odisha in the semi finals.

4 Corporates Indus Ind, Allergan, L&T technology services and Nike were formally recognised as Corporate supporters of the Year.

Recognising the Cricketing Heroes: 

To honor the exceptional roles, blind cricketers have displayed during their cricketing journey, CABI has chosen to award The Cricketer of the Year to Zeeshan Haider from UP,Category B1, Ajay Kumar Reddy from AP, Category B2, Sunil Ramesh from Karnataka, Category B3.

The General Secretary of CABI announced the election of new office bearers of CABI that includes a 13 member governing council and 4 executive council members who have been elected for 4 years. He also announced the launch of the Men's domestic Season starting 2019, the first ever Women's tournament 2019 -20 and the First away tour where the Indian Blind Cricket team will be touring Jamaica from July 18 to July 28 on their first away tour of the season. The Home Season bilateral series is scheduled for the month of November and December 2019. The dates of matches will be announced in due course of time
