All round Sunil stars as India start off with a bang

Jamaica: India kick-started their Caribbean adventure with the first ODI here at the Melbourne Cricket Oval, Kingston. On a hot and humid day, Indian captain Ajay Reddy won the toss and put the hosts Jamaica in. Openers Ricketts and Stewart made a slow yet watchful start before the Indian captain struck in the 5th over by removing Stewart for 6. Like the old saying in cricket one brings two, Jamaica found themselves reeling at 20/3 by the end of the 6th over. But a resurgent 4th wicket partnership of 43 runs between Shim and Graham took the score past 50. The Islanders kept losing wickets at regular intervals and it looked like they would struggle to even reach 100. But a 36 run stand for the 7th wicket helped them cross the three-figure mark before they were bundled out for 117 in 25.3 overs. Ajay Reddy was the star performer for India with the ball as he picked up 3 wickets.
Chasing a small target the Indian openers were off to a flier. The run chase was simply a “Sunil Ramesh Show” as he smashed the bowlers all around the park to bring up his 50 off just 23 balls. Jamaica tried to stage a fightback as they removed both Chandrashekar and John David in quick succession but it wasn’t enough as the Indians romped home comfortably to complete an easy 8 wicket victory. And with this win, India has taken a 1-0 lead in the 3 match series with the second game to be played at the same venue tomorrow.
