Hosts Tripura prevail in a super over

The last day on the Agartala leg of the 2nd edition of the Indus Ind Nagesh Trophy 2019-20 provided the much-needed impetus. Though the first match between Uttarakhand and Bihar was abandoned due to wet outfield, the second match between the hosts Tripura vs Bihar made up for it. The last league match in Agartala had a VIP visitor, Ms Niti Deb, the wife of Tripura Chief minister Mr Biplab Kumar Deb. In her speech she said, she was amazed by the way these blind people played cricket, as she was unaware of such cricket will be played so professionally. The Cricket Association for the blind in Tripura (CABT) presented her with a list of demands, which included a dedicated ground for CABT, 5-lakh rupees grant for the association, scholarship for blind students and one annual tournament should be organised in Agartala for the betterment of the game.

In a match which was reduced to 10-overs-a-side due to rain and wet outfield. Bihar won the toss and put the hosts Tripura into bat. Rajendra Panuria held the innings at the top with a stroke-filled 27 after they had lost an early wicket. But it was Sagar Kumar, who was later adjudged the Man of the Match late onslaught which helped the hosts Tripura to put up a challenging total and they ended up on 112/5 in 10 overs.

Chasing a tricky total, Bihar started off well, with Sudhanshu Kumar and Jay Prakash stitching a very good partnership for the 2nd wicket. But once they fell, the inexperienced Bihar team lost wicket at regular intervals, they lost all the 5 wickets to run-outs. Even though Kanhaia fought well towards the end, but they could only level the total and a super over was used to decide the winner.

Bihar batted first in the super over and they could manage to score only 7 runs as the hosts Tripura bowled with some discipline and tightened the hook when it really mattered. Chasing 8 runs for their first win in the 2nd edition of the Indus Ind Nagesh Trophy hosts Tripura had some luck to start with as they got back-back wides. But the very next ball they lost their mainstay Rajendra Panuria, who was bowled trying for a wild slog, an inexperienced shot to be attempted at that stage of the game. Bihar had a chance to capitalise on this, but they buckled under pressure and made a costly mistake, an unnecessary overthrow, which helped the hosts Tripura register their first win in the Indus Ind Nagesh Trophy 2019-20.
