Maharashtra top the table with 3 consecutive wins

The last day of the Maharashtra leg of the second edition of the Indus Ind Nagesh Trophy was held at Deccan Gymkhana ground. Two matches were planned for the day, with Tamil Nadu taking on Jharkhand and hosts Maharashtra taking on West Bengal.

In the first match, Jharkhand won the toss and elected to field. Tamil Nadu had a disastrous start by losing its first wicket in the 2nd over. None of their other batsmen could cope with Jharkhand's disciplined bowling attack and they were shot out for a paltry score of 99 inside 17 overs. Venkateshmunikaran waged a lone battle scoring 34. It was always going to be an easy chase for Jharkhand and Nishit William continued his glorious form with an unbeaten 33 as Jharkhand romped home easily in the 13th over losing only one wicket. Rohit Dorah was named the Man of the Match for his terrific spell of 4/10.

The Hosts Maharashtra played the second and the last match of this Maharashtra leg. They won the toss and put West Bengal in and the decision backfired as West Bengal got off to a glorious start, with the openers putting up 132 for the 1st wicket. Just when we thought the match was slipping out of Maharashtra, the bowlers came to the rescue and the runs dried up towards the end. They eventually scored 164, but at one stage it looked like they will get close to 200. Dibyendu and Prosenjit scored the fifties, with other batsmen failing to cash on the opening stand. The hosts Maharashtra started on a bad not losing the first wicket in the 3rd over, but Anil Belsare made sure there were no further hiccups and scored a stroke-filled unbeaten 72 and he was ably supported by Pravin, who chipped in with 37. Things got a bit tough towards the end. They needed 4 runs from the last over and they lost a wicket in the first ball of the 20th over. Anil held his nerve to steer his team to 3rd consecutive win. They now top the table. Anil Belsare was unanimously chosen as the Man of the Match.

There was a small closing ceremony, where the Man of the Match trophies were handed over to the players from the five matches which were played from yesterday. Ms Caroline and Ms Jade graced the occasion. Mr Raj Deshmukh, Auditor for Sports Authority of India and the advisory for Superstar Rajnikanth's Trust was also present to do the honours.
