Kerala and Andhra pick up consecutive wins

Hosts Kerala and last year’s finalist Andhra Pradesh won their second match in as many days in the ongoing IndusInd Bank Nagesh trophy season 2019-20. In the first match of the day Kerala overcame a young and spirited Maharashtra team by four wickets in the last over of the game. Kerala had earlier in the day won the toss and opted to bowl first on a dry surface. The bowlers and the fielders were on the mark from ball one and managed to restrict the Maharashtra batsmen to just 135 in their 20 overs.

Kerala made a slow start in their chase and lost two wickets in the beginning, but a really good partnership between Farhan and Vishnu brought the game back in their control. The Maharashtra bowlers came back strongly and we were heading towards a tight finish. Skipper Manish held his nerve and with an unbeaten knock as his team won the game with one ball to spare.

In the second game of the day Andhra Pradesh overcame a fighting Jharkhand by 19 runs. Andhra Pradesh won the toss and opted to bat first. The Jharkhand team had their tails up and stuck crucial blows as Andhra were reeling at 51/5 losing all their big guns. Wicketkeeper Ravi and Thandava stitched together a crucial partnership and carried the team to a competitive total of 147.

Defending a small total, Andhra struck timely blows as the Jharkhand batsmen struggled to keep up with the required run rate and fell 19 runs short of the target despite an unbeaten fifty from Sanjeev. In the last league game of the Kochi leg, Kerala face Andhra Pradesh tomorrow.
