Karnataka overcome Haryana in a high scoring thriller

Hosts Karnataka began their home leg of the second season of IndusInd Bank Nagesh trophy at SJCE, KSCA cricket ground with a thrilling eight wicket win over Haryana. Earlier in the morning, Karnataka and newly appointed India’s Blind One Day International Captain Sunil Ramesh won the toss and opted to field first. And he celebrated his appointment by picking up four wickets. But the first innings was all about Deepak Malik who was appointed as the new T20I captain of the Indian Blind Cricket team, who scored a belligerent 138 as he belted the Karnataka bowlers all around the park with his wide range of shots. Haryana posted a mammoth total of 213 runs losing six wickets in their 20 overs.

Chasing a huge target, Karnataka lost two quick wickets within the first three overs. What followed next was a partnership which will be talked about for a long long time. Opener Lokesh was joined in the middle by skipper Sunil. The pair started cautiously and took their time to settle. Once the two batsmen were in they calculated their assault on the Haryana bowlers. The extras from the Haryana bowlers didn’t help them either as Karnataka completed a thrilling chase in the last over with eight wickets remaining. With this, Karnataka have now won three matches in a row and look good to make it to the quarterfinals.

If the first game was a thriller, the second one was a total mismatch as Delhi emerged comfortable victors against Goa by a huge margin of 134 runs. Winning the toss, Delhi decided to bat first and riding high on Irfan Devan’s unbeaten century posted the highest total of the second season of IndusInd Bank Nagesh trophy. Chasing a massive target, Goa were never in the hunt as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. The Delhi bowlers bowled tight line and length as they restricted the Goa batsmen to just 128 runs in their 20 overs. The matches were inaugurated by Mr. Mahantesh GK, President World Blind Cricket and Cricket Association for the Blind in India and Managing Trustee Samarthanam trust for the Disabled in the presence of Mr. Sudhakar Rai, Convenor KSCA Mysore Zone.
