Karnataka overcome Kerala in a high scoring thriller to book their place in the semis

Powered by wicketkeeper Prakash Jayaramiah’s century and an unbeaten 83 from Lokesh, Karnataka beat Kerala in a high scoring contest here at Just Cricket Ground, Bengaluru to book their place in the semifinal of the second edition of IndusInd Bank Nagesh Trophy. Kerala won the toss and decided to bowl on a bright and sunny day. Karnataka openers made merry of the opposite captain’s decision to bowl as they stitched together a double hundred stand. Prakash brought up his first century of the season with a stroke-filled innings while Lokesh gave him good support from the other end as Karnataka finished their innings on 217/2 in their 20 overs.

Chasing a huge target, Kerala were off to a flier as captain Manish found boundaries on regular intervals and kept the required run rate in check. At the halfway mark of the innings, the visitors were well with a chance before the skipper was run out going back for a risky second. Basappa struck twice in one over and that choked the Kerala chase as they fell short of the target by 16 runs. Karnataka now awaits the winner of Rajasthan and Maharashtra game in the semis.

The opening ceremony was attended by Shri Vishwanath, Honourable MLA and political secretary to Honourable Chief Minister of Karnataka appreciated the work of Samarthanam trust for the disabled and assured all possible help in the future from his personal and from government side, along with Shri Ashok IRS, principal commissioner of Customs, Government of India. Our Honourable President Mr Mahantesh G.K along with the above-distinguished guests inaugurated the 2nd Quarter-final of this year's IndusInd Nagesh Trophy 2019-20.

After the pulsating quarter-final, which saw Karnataka finish on the winning side. The closing ceremony in which the Women's team was felicitated for finishing runners-up in the first-ever Samarthanam Women's National T20 tournament for the Blind which was held in New Delhi in December. Shri Putanna, MLC graced the occasion and felicitated the Women's Blind team. He commended the spirit of the girls and appreciated the efforts of Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled. He extended his support and said he would to concerned ministers and officials for any possible help for the cricketers and organization. Shri Madan Gopal, Former IAS officer was also present along with H.S. Ramesh Babu, Principal, Sai Vidya Institute. Our President, Mahantesh GK was also present.
